Love Poem to Sand Paintings in Glass Jars
on a shelf at the Global Education Center,
Gerber-topped and gleaming, the undulant
pinks and blues and yellows and red sand
against black sand, and I'm back in grade school
amidst all those failed art projects of my youth
and the ever patient Mrs. Rosenblum
who taught measure and mimicry, that depth
and perception are about more than just the way
one holds the pen.
